Our FOIA suit for Citizens United to obtain additional documents about the Christopher Steele briefing at the State Department concerning the Steele Dossier on October 11, 2016 continues. Today we filed our Memorandum in Opposition to the State Department’s Motion for Summary Judgment together with our Reply to the State Department’s Opposition to our Motion for Summary Judgment.
Also filed today was Exhibit A to our filing, which consists of documents recently released by the State Department on July 5, 2019.

Citizens United v. Department of State — Motion for Summary Judgement
Today we filed a motion for summary judgment, memorandum of points and authorities, and two proposed orders in a FOIA case seeking records on an October 11, 2016 briefing which Christopher Steele gave at the State Department concerning his Steele dossier. This is the case in which the State Department released never-before-seen Kavalec emails proving that the FBI was on notice that the Steele dossier was politically motivated and highly unreliable, even before it was used to obtain the first FISA warrant against Carter Page.
Citizens United v. Department of Labor (Case No. 1:19-cv-00310)
Today, on behalf of Citizens United, we filed a Complaint under the Freedom of Information Act against the Department of Labor, seeking email communications sent to or received by email addresses which have been publicly reported to be associated with Obama’s Labor Secretary Tom Perez. The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Today we filed suit under FOIA against an office in the U.S. Department of Justice, seeking records concerning a long-closed government investigation and seizure of assets.
Independence Institute v. Federal Election Commission
Today, our firm filed an amicus brief in support of The Independence Institute, in its challenge to certain federal election law and Federal Election Commission regulations governing electioneering communications. Under these regulations, Section 501(c)(3) organizations must report on their broadcast issue ads which mention the name of incumbent Congressmen. The required reports include certain information on donors to the nonprofit organizations. Our brief explains why these laws and regulations violate First Amendment principles of anonymity long recognized by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Today our firm filed Plaintiff’s Motion for Partial Judgment on the Pleadings in the case of Gun Owners Foundation v. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on behalf of plaintiff Gun Owners Foundation in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. We filed the motion because the Government failed to respond to GOF’s FOIA request for 15 months, until this suit was filed, and then admitted it had asserted no specific exemptions.
Gun Owners Foundation Files Suit to Obtain ATF Fast & Furious Records
On June 6, 2012, on behalf of Gun Owners Foundation, our firm filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The suit stemmed from an April, 2011 Freedom of Information Act request in which GOF sought records pertaining to the infamous “Fast and Furious” and program where ATF federal agents deliberately and incomprehensibly put firearms directly into the hands of Mexican drug cartels.
Court Order in Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee, Inc.’s Freedom of Information Act Lawsuit
Today, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia ordered the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System to produce to the court for in camera inspection redacted and unredacted copies of 20 documents by January 14, 2011, in this Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee, Inc. arising from requests for records beginning in 2007 relating to “gold swaps.”

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia denied the Daniel Chapter One (“DCO”) motion to dismiss, denied the government’s motion for a preliminary injunction enjoining defendants from violating the FTC’s order, and stayed the case pending resolution of DCO’s appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
